• 1:11 | single episode we do this season and
• 1:13 | we’re doing it in a way where we’re
• 1:14 | blending
• 1:15 | in real drama you know real storytelling
• 1:18 | with our characters and we’re taking
• 1:19 | them all on a journey
• 1:21 | being honest and addressing some of the
• 1:22 | issues in an honest way
• 1:24 | is not just one of the strengths of the
• 1:26 | show i think now
• 1:27 | more than ever kind of an obligation
• 1:29 | lapd
• 1:30 | show me your hands now
• 1:36 | what the hell i didn’t do anything roll
• 1:38 | over don’t mess
• 1:45 | i will knock your ass out get your hands
• 1:47 | off my wife
• 1:54 | changes are necessary we have to prove
• 1:57 | to the community that we are still
• 1:58 | worthy of their trust
• 2:00 | we want to humanize this job we want to
• 2:03 | honor the job
• 2:04 | but at the same time show you that these
• 2:05 | are actual people real life people
• 2:07 | struggling with real-life issues hey
• 2:09 | come on take it easy it’s okay we’re
• 2:11 | just arresting him for burglary for
• 2:12 | stealing this backpack what you need
• 2:13 | four cops for a kid still in a bag
• 2:16 | what am i supposed to do how can i be an
• 2:18 | ally to the people who live here
• 2:20 | stop pretending like you know what they
• 2:22 | need
• 2:23 | and just ask meeting a lot of cops and
• 2:26 | knowing that
• 2:27 | we have um a responsibility to them a
• 2:30 | responsibility to
• 2:31 | the viewers so the fact that we’re
• 2:34 | taking on big topics is exactly what i
• 2:36 | think we should be doing
• 2:37 | this guy just made one of your neighbors
• 2:39 | a victim okay he’s going in simple
• 2:41 | it’s never that simple i truly believe
• 2:44 | that the work that they’ve been putting
• 2:45 | together and we’ve all been
• 2:46 | collaborating with really can change the
• 2:48 | way and the dynamic of the social
• 2:50 | unrest that’s been going on in our
• 2:51 | country this is a show that is actually
• 2:54 | trying to figure out
• 2:55 | its role in this conversation about
• 2:58 | reimagining the ways in which
• 3:01 | police officers interact with black
• 3:02 | communities so if we have that kind of
• 3:04 | an influence
• 3:05 | why not try to use that responsibly
• 3:08 | we’re going to tell some pretty rough
• 3:10 | stories some raw stories
• 3:11 | i’m in this generation and i was
• 3:13 | terrified to play a cop
• 3:15 | but watching the show things were
• 3:17 | tackling this season
• 3:19 | it gave me hope this whole situation is
• 3:21 | extremely complicated
• 3:23 | we don’t have the answers we are still
• 3:25 | seeking and looking for those
• 3:27 | solutions and i think you can see that
• 3:30 | the show
