On July 23, 2023, Special Ops: Lioness will launch exclusively on Paramount+. Taylor Sheridan’s other series, including the Yellowstone spin-offs 1883 and 1923, the Sylvester Stallone series Tulsa King, and the Jeremy Renner series Mayor of Kingstown, have all aired on the Paramount-owned streaming service. Hence, it stands to reason that this one will as well.

The series’ official teaser was recently released on the Paramount+ YouTube channel, and here is our opinion on it. Based on a true-life CIA undercover assignment, the plot follows a team of operatives who discover that multiple terrorists have already infiltrated their organization and that, while they uncover a few of them, they cannot just execute them due to a lack of evidence.

As a result, the CIA devised a plan in which female spies led by Joe (Zoe Saldana) approach the terrorists’ partners and daughters. Their job after becoming familiar with the family is to execute the target when they appear. On the other hand, Joe must balance her personal and professional lives while ensuring that no other operatives under her command leave the assignment, revealing the entire operation.

The teaser almost felt like a movie, with its high-quality production and the tension surrounding each scene. While it has a Mission: Impossible vibe and is mainly rooted in the world of spies, we may expect a dramatic series finale.

Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana are the two major stars of Special Ops: Lioness. Kidman will portray Kaitlyn Meade, the CIA’s senior supervisor with plenty of political experience but also strives to juggle her career in the intelligence agency, her private life, and being a mentor to a young recruit on a familiar road. Saldana plays Joe, the Lioness program’s station chief, in training, managing, and guiding the female undercover operatives. Kidman and Saldana both serve as executive producers for the show.

Kidman is an Oscar winner (The Hours) most recognized for appearing in films such as Moulin Rouge!, Cold Mountain, and, most recently, Being the Ricardos and The Northman. She’s also been doing a lot of TV lately, including an Emmy-winning performance in Big Little Lies and other high-profile shows like Nine Perfect Strangers and The Undoing. Saldana has also appeared in several significant film roles, including Avatar: The Way of Water and the MCU, with her most recent cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In 2022, she had a great hit on TV with the Netflix limited series From Scratch.
