Directed By: Mark Webber
Synopsis: A young boy battles the complexities of a grown-up world with his father.
The Place of No Words Plot
“Where do we go when we die?” A question by three year old Bodhi Palmer sets a real family on an imaginative adventure that explores how we cope with dying and the love, laughter, and pain we can find within it. Bodhi gives a rare tour de force performance while starring alongside his actual mother and father (Mark Webber and Teresa Palmer). Told through both the eyes of a father and his young son the story moves between the authentic real world and a fantasy realm filled with mythical creatures and circumstances.
The Place of No Words Reviews
A film that feels both very specific yet universal in its message, The Place of No Words is a beautiful letter from a father to his son about what happens after death
Casting his actual wife and son, Webber’s film is deeply personal and almost feels like a documentary at times
Calling it “reality cinema”, he attempts to make his films as authentic as possible, and it fully comes across
The creature design and landscapes portrayed are beautiful and seem straight out of LOTR which is impressive
There are some technical aspects that could have been improved upon, but nothing inherently bad in my opinion
Webber’s son Bodhi is so funny and his childhood imagination flows off the screen which leads to one of the most heartfelt scenes of the year
