Rranscript Video:

  • 0:01 | – Your execution’s at sunset.
  • 0:03 | We’ll give you the respect
    of choosing how you die.
  • 0:06 | – Here we are back
    for episode three.
  • 0:08 | This one is called “False Gods,”
  • 0:10 | and was written by the
    Grand Dame, Kim Shumway.
  • 0:14 | – Hello.
    – Hi, Kim.
  • 0:15 | – I’m excited to be here
  • 0:17 | and excited that people
finally get to see the season.
  • 0:19 | – This episode was
    directed by Tim Scanlan,
  • 0:23 | who is a rockstar in post
  • 0:25 | and has directed a
    whole bunch of episodes
  • 0:27 | over the course of the
    run and his episodes
  • 0:29 | never fail to be to be great.
  • 0:31 | – This was the episode where
    there was a power outage,
  • 0:34 | for the first time ever
in the history of the show
  • 0:36 | and it took down three shows,
  • 0:38 | it took down us, Supergirl and
    Riverdale across the street
  • 0:41 | and it was just, we were
    down for almost an hour
  • 0:45 | and, just, he was totally
    unflappable, it was great.
  • 0:47 | – That’s really weird
    because there was actually
  • 0:48 | a power outage in
    the story, as well.
  • 0:51 | – (laughing) Exactly.
  • 0:53 | (gasping)
  • 0:54 | We revealed, in
    the last episode,
  • 0:56 | that Sheidheda
    is, in fact, alive
  • 0:58 | and has not taken
    over Russell’s body.
  • 1:01 | He’s in a tricky situation
    because he has to survive
  • 1:04 | when a bunch of people
    want to kill him,
  • 1:06 | so we’ll get to see
    our first glimpses
  • 1:08 | of how Sheidheda operates,
    which is really fun.
  • 1:11 | – Yeah, he’s an
    interesting character
  • 1:12 | and JR Bourne joining us as
    a series regular this year
  • 1:16 | really does, kind of,
    inhabit a new persona.
  • 1:20 | – And it’s interesting
    because Clarke’s story
  • 1:22 | intersects with his in a
    really interesting way.
  • 1:24 | – I lost myself last night.
    – Burning down the palace
  • 1:27 | was a bit extreme, but
    Clarke, he killed your mother
  • 1:31 | and so many others and
today he will die for it.
  • 1:34 | – She consigned him to death
  • 1:36 | and now she’s feeling
    that, a little bit.
  • 1:39 | It was a bit of a rash
    decision, you know,
  • 1:41 | made in the heat of the
    moment’s grief over Abby.
  • 1:44 | – To my followers, this
would be the death of a God.
  • 1:47 | – Now she’s having to face
    the consequences of her,
  • 1:49 | kind of, death sentence
    and was she right
  • 1:52 | and will it create even more
    problems than it would solve?
  • 1:56 | – Well, of course it will.
    – It’s The 100
  • 1:58 | and because it’s The 100,
    nothing can ever be simple,
  • 2:00 | so she actually has a
    second crisis to deal with.
  • 2:03 | – The core’s overheating.
  • 2:05 | The reactor will melt down
    and it’s bye bye Sanctum.
  • 2:08 | – We often give characters
    these difficult choices to make.
  • 2:11 | You’re between a rock
    and a hard place,
  • 2:12 | what are you gonna do?
  • 2:14 | And Raven really hasn’t
    had to face those yet
  • 2:17 | and really hasn’t had to be
    the one making the choice
  • 2:20 | and in this episode, for
    the first time, she will.
  • 2:23 | – So how do we stop it?
  • 2:25 | – We push in the control rods,
  • 2:26 | we plug the cracks, we’re good.
  • 2:27 | – Just that simple.
    – I like you.
  • 2:31 | Someone has to go into
    primary containment
  • 2:33 | to get the control
    rods in place,
  • 2:34 | it’s a high radiation
    environment.
  • 2:36 | – Yeah, I think that was
    a really important aspect
  • 2:38 | to this story and I know, for
    you, that it was important
  • 2:41 | to, sort of, put Raven
    into the crucible
  • 2:45 | that so many of our other
    characters have been put in.
  • 2:47 | I know there have been
    scenes in previous episodes,
  • 2:49 | or seasons, where people
    have said something
  • 2:52 | to the effect of,
  • 2:53 | “We’ve all done things
    we’re not proud of,”
  • 2:55 | and Raven’s response is
    usually, “I haven’t,”
  • 2:58 | because it’s true that she
hasn’t and so, on some level,
  • 3:02 | I think it’s important that
she really does get to feel
  • 3:06 | what those types of
    decisions are like,
  • 3:08 | so she can A, understand
    her friends more
  • 3:11 | and what they’ve been going
    through and B, of course,
  • 3:13 | understand what
    she’s made out of.
  • 3:16 | – It shows us who Raven is
  • 3:17 | and how she reacts
    under pressure,
  • 3:19 | but it also spreads out
    and affects everything else
  • 3:22 | in Sanctum in a really
    interesting way.
  • 3:24 | – Are you lost or something?
    – I could use some help
  • 3:26 | and your people have the skills.
  • 3:29 | – What’s in it for us?
  • 3:30 | – One of the other
    exciting things
  • 3:31 | we get to do in this episode
    is finally really meet
  • 3:34 | the Eligius prisoners.
  • 3:35 | You met them a little bit,
kind of, in a tense situation
  • 3:37 | in the premiere, but we don’t
really know them as people yet
  • 3:41 | and this episode gives us
    the opportunity to explore
  • 3:44 | how they view themselves,
  • 3:45 | how they believe other
    people view them, you know,
  • 3:49 | rightly or wrongly,
    probably rightly.
  • 3:51 | – They’re making
    us do the hard work
  • 3:53 | and giving us tents and
    scraps from their table.
  • 3:56 | I see the way they look at us.
  • 3:58 | – We’ll especially
get to hear a lot from
  • 4:01 | one of our new
    characters, Nikki,
  • 4:03 | played by Alaina
    Huffman, who’s amazing.
  • 4:05 | We’ll get to learn
    more about her
  • 4:07 | and more about her relationships
  • 4:09 | and how she views the
    world and potentially,
  • 4:11 | the prejudice against her
    people who are, of course,
  • 4:15 | all criminals.
  • 4:17 | – Chad Rook, who plays
    Hatch, is amazing as well.
  • 4:19 | I mean, just so fun and
    really did sink his teeth
  • 4:23 | into this southern accent.
  • 4:25 | – We are still here,
    we are still one people
  • 4:29 | and we are all in danger.
  • 4:31 | – One of the things I
    was really excited about
  • 4:33 | in this episode was to dig
    into Gaia a little bit,
  • 4:35 | ’cause I love Gaia.
  • 4:36 | She’s so different from
    a lot of our characters
  • 4:38 | because she’s a woman of
faith and she always has been
  • 4:40 | and it’s very important to
her, you know, it’s her core
  • 4:43 | and in this episode, she
    makes a difficult decision,
  • 4:46 | just like she made
    a difficult decision
  • 4:48 | in last season’s finale.
  • 4:49 | – We tell them the truth.
    – Don’t be a fool, Gaia!
  • 4:52 | – Have some faith in
    our people, mother!
  • 4:54 | – I know our people!
  • 4:56 | – They’ve been pretending that
    the flame is not destroyed,
  • 4:58 | but Madi is still the
    commander and now,
  • 5:00 | Gaia is faced with,
    potentially, telling her people
  • 5:03 | that things have changed.
    – That’ll go well, I’m sure.
  • 5:06 | – Suddenly a nuclear
    meltdown doesn’t seem so bad.
  • 5:09 | (dramatic music)
