Rranscript Video:
0:01 | (power surges)
0:02 | That’s incredibly dangerous.
0:04 | – I know!
0:05 | It blew up a car.
0:06 | – You blew up a car?
0:07 | – I didn’t!
0:08 | It did.
0:09 | (power surges with metallic whoosh)
0:10 | – Joel McHale and the great Geoff Johns
0:13 | on the other side of your screen.
0:15 | Obviously, “Stargirl” is special to you
0:20 | for reasons I’d love to talk about.
0:21 | – Yeah, it was the first comic book I ever wrote
0:25 | and really, I created it, my sister passed away
0:27 | a few years prior to it being released.
0:29 | She was the youngest of us all,
0:31 | and she was such a force in my life, a positive force,
0:34 | and so driven, a little too enthusiastic sometimes,
0:38 | because she had two older brothers
0:40 | and thought she could do everything,
0:41 | and she tried to do everything, and most of the time,
0:43 | she actually would surprise everybody.
0:45 | But I wanted to put that energy into something,
0:48 | and I love DC Comics, I always have,
0:50 | so I created this character inspired by her,
0:52 | named after her.
0:54 | I always hoped the character would go on
0:55 | and live in the DC Universe and just be
0:57 | one of the many superheroes in it, and find a life after.
1:00 | – Who are you?
1:01 | (metal clanks, air whooshes)
1:03 | (microphone screeches)
1:05 | – Someone looking for justice.
1:07 | – I thought back then, “We could never do a robot,”
1:09 | like, “We can’t do this as a show.”
1:11 | We talked to some people about it way back when,
1:13 | and they’re like, “How do you do it without the robot?”
1:15 | And it’s fun to live in an era where we can
1:18 | do it with the robot, we can do it with characters
1:20 | like Sylvester Pemberton and the JSA,
1:22 | and it’s just a different time than it was then.
1:25 | – I know this has been difficult.
1:26 | (inhales sharply)
1:28 | The move, and a new stepfather, a new stepbrother,
1:30 | and an instant family.
1:32 | (both laugh awkwardly)
1:33 | – You moved to Atlanta.
1:35 | – Yeah, yeah, I moved to Atlanta for the production.
1:37 | – Which is not, that’s not normal, right?
1:40 | – I just wanted to dedicate everything
1:42 | I had to this show, because I love the character,
1:45 | I love the show so much, and I wanted to,
1:48 | if I was gonna have the one chance in my life
1:50 | to do this, I wasn’t gonna miss it.
1:52 | – Right.
1:54 | – It really just means a lot to me,
1:55 | that character means a lot.
1:57 | If someone said, “You’re gonna showrun
1:58 | “the show for this many seasons”–
2:00 | – Are you okay?
2:01 | – [Geoff] I’d love to do that.
2:02 | I wanna do this as long as it makes sense
2:03 | and we can make a great show.
2:05 | – I’m good!
2:06 | (heroic music)
