Rranscript Video:
0:01 | – Prisoners of the Ark hear me now.
0:04 | You’ve been given a second chance.
0:06 | – Seven years is a very long time.
0:09 | – Everything we thought we knew about the ground is wrong.
0:11 | – But I knew nothing like my day one
0:13 | in writers’ room of “The 100”
0:15 | was my first day in a writers’ room.
0:17 | I was the creator, executive producer of the show,
0:20 | and I had the exact same experience
0:23 | as a PA on their first day.
0:26 | (cheering)
0:28 | – Jasper!
0:29 | (thud)
0:30 | – [Jason] In the pilot Jasper was supposed to die.
0:33 | – Jasper!
0:34 | That spear was too close to hit his heart.
0:37 | Devon Bostik was so awesome, myself and Matt Miller,
0:40 | who was an EP on the show.
0:42 | We’re like, “we can’t kill this kid.”
0:44 | And so we kind of like went
0:46 | and drew a little spot on his chest
0:47 | where perhaps it wouldn’t hit his heart
0:49 | – Jasper, oh my god, he’s alive.
0:52 | – We pulled that punch from the beginning,
0:54 | the show was supposed to be a show
0:57 | where main characters could die,
0:58 | heightening the stakes for everybody,
1:00 | but we pulled that punch.
1:01 | And so we knew we had to kind of get back
1:03 | to that fairly quickly.
1:05 | And so that’s where the Wells story sort of came from.
1:09 | And so at the end of episode three, when Wells died
1:12 | turning into scene episode four
1:15 | where Murphy’s blamed for it and then hanged for it.
1:18 | – Charlotte!
1:19 | And then a 12 year old girl
1:21 | who actually did it jumps off a cliff.
1:23 | I feel like that was where we kind of found our groove.
1:27 | (metal grinding)
1:30 | The truth is we also were trying
1:32 | to make a show for a different CW.
1:34 | we were still trying to hit a show for the network
1:37 | that brought you “Gossip Girl”,
1:40 | by the way, producers of “Gossip Girl”,
1:42 | “Gossip Girl” was great,
1:43 | but this is a very different show.
1:46 | And so we started out trying
1:48 | to make a bright, shiny, beautiful people show.
1:51 | (chuckles)
1:53 | And then we were influenced by Mark Pedowitz
1:56 | continuously telling me it can be darker.
2:01 | – We have no options we need time
2:03 | or everyone in this station is going to die.
2:06 | – He watched episode five of season one,
2:08 | which is the episode where we killed 300 people
2:13 | to buy more time for everybody else in the Ark,
2:17 | unnecessarily. The girl with the pink barrette.
2:19 | Everybody loves that absence tragically,
2:22 | emotional and powerful.
2:23 | Mark, he called me and said,
2:25 | “that was a great episode, but you could go darker.”
2:29 | (screaming)
2:30 | (gunfire)
2:31 | (screaming)
2:32 | (splashing)
2:33 | I was like, “really? Okay, the leash is now off.”
2:37 | (screaming)
2:38 | – The Sanctum is mine!
2:40 | (gasps)
2:42 | (screams in foreign language)
2:44 | (crowd cheers)
2:46 | – That was sort of where we got that mentality
2:49 | to be able to really tell story in a way
2:51 | that the network hadn’t done before,
2:53 | – You’re not listening, we all need to go.
2:56 | – (mumbles) everybody.
2:58 | – It’s Chancellor of Earth.
2:59 | – There are so many talented actors top
3:01 | to bottom in this show.
3:04 | One of them who is now one of the main leads of the show.
3:09 | Richard Harmon started as John number one.
3:12 | – My father, he begged for mercy near (indistinct) chamber.
3:16 | When your father floated him,
3:18 | – Richard just popped every time the camera found him,
3:22 | he was doing something interesting.
3:24 | And when you’re writing a show and when the show is going
3:29 | to run for a while, you need that.
3:31 | You need actors who can really just stand out
3:37 | every time they show up on camera,
3:38 | they make you wanna write for them.
3:40 | – You think you’re in charge here?
3:41 | You and your little princess?
3:44 | You are Wonkru, or you’re the enemy of Wonkru. Choose.
3:49 | – [Jason] This is a show where everybody changes
3:50 | so much from beginning to end is as a rewatch of the pilot,
3:54 | I’m sure would show, but I have to say Octavia–
3:56 | – We’re back bitches.
3:59 | – That character has changed 16 different times.
4:02 | – Don’t tell me I missed the party.
4:03 | (horse neighs)
4:04 | (trampling)
4:05 | – [Jason] She’s had like six different names,
4:07 | Skairipa, Blodreina, she’s run the gauntlet.
4:13 | But so has Clarke.
4:14 | She’s changed so much and obviously Bellamy
4:18 | has changed so much.
4:20 | – I’ve been to war and let me tell you.
4:23 | The only way to win.
4:27 | Is not to fight.
4:29 | – I am so satisfied by the ending.
4:32 | On the one hand I never imagined.
4:34 | We’d be making a show for seven years.
4:37 | 100 episodes is not what I was thinking
4:39 | when I started writing this pilot.
4:41 | I was thinking, “Am I gonna get a pilot shot?”
4:45 | just to be able to get to end it,
4:47 | the way that we wanted to is a luxury.
4:51 | – We can change.
4:52 | – [Jason] We’re all in this together.
4:54 | And until we realize that we are all gonna die,
4:57 | we are doomed if we don’t get with that program.
5:00 | So that’s ultimately what this show says.
5:03 | – There she is.
5:04 | it’s just emotional to say goodbye
5:06 | to all of these characters and these people
5:09 | and it’s really only just starting to hit me
5:12 | as I turn over the finale.
5:14 | It’s been a journey.
5:15 | It’s been a pleasure and an honor, but it’s bittersweet too.
5:19 | (gentle music)
