• 0:14 | He’s sacrificing
  himself for Dean.
• 0:16 | You know, ever since we met,
• 0:17 | and ever since I
  pulled you out of hell,
• 0:22 | knowing you has changed me.
• 0:24 | I have always kind of imagined
• 0:26 | that that’s how Castiel’s
  ending would be on the show.
• 0:30 | And I’m really grateful
  that this scene
• 0:34 | played out the way it did.
• 0:36 | – Why does this
  sound like a goodbye?
• 0:40 | – Because it is.
• 0:43 | That night of shooting was
  really, really emotional.
• 0:47 | And it was my last day of
  shooting on “Supernatural”.
• 0:53 | It was also right
  before production
• 0:56 | got shut down because of COVID.
• 1:00 | And we had a
  convention that night,
• 1:03 | where we had to jump on a
  plane to get to Las Vegas.
• 1:09 | That was the last
  convention that we did
• 1:13 | before the convention circuit
  got shut down due to COVID.
• 1:17 | And it was kinda
  cuspy at that moment.
• 1:20 | Like, are they gonna have
  this convention happen or not?
• 1:24 | Is it too dangerous with COVID?
• 1:25 | And we were just like,
  right on that edge.
• 1:27 | But in the end,
• 1:29 | they decided to move
  forward with the convention.
• 1:32 | So we had a late
  night of shooting.
• 1:34 | And we all said
  goodbye to Castiel.
• 1:38 | I said goodbye to the crew.
• 1:40 | And it was a lot, it was a lot,
• 1:44 | like the scene was
  very emotional,
• 1:46 | and people were crying on set
• 1:49 | because the scene
  itself was emotional,
• 1:52 | but there were also tears on set
• 1:53 | because everybody
  was saying goodbye.
• 1:55 | And then we got on, they had
  chartered a flight for us,
• 2:00 | and because we had a
  very tight window to get
• 2:03 | to the convention and it was
  a late night of shooting.
• 2:06 | And we got on the flight
• 2:08 | and we toasted again
  as we took off.
• 2:11 | And we were about 10
  minutes into the flight
• 2:13 | when there was a huge explosion,
• 2:16 | and a rattling sound
  and a flash of light.
• 2:20 | And one of the engines
  had literally exploded,
• 2:25 | like twisted, gnarled metal.
• 2:27 | And there was a shuttering
  and shrieking of the airplane.
• 2:30 | And we banked around and
  we flew back to Vancouver,
• 2:35 | and they had, I don’t know,
• 2:37 | five or six fire engines
  waiting for us on the tarmac.
• 2:40 | And as we were coming back in,
• 2:43 | the plane was shuttering
  and there was this
• 2:45 | like screaming sound
  coming off the wings.
• 2:48 | And as we got close
  to cell reception,
• 2:51 | we all texted like, tell
  the kids, I love ’em.
• 2:55 | ‘Cause we didn’t know
  if we were gonna live.
• 2:58 | And that night was just so
• 3:01 | unbelievably fraught
  with emotion,
• 3:04 | saying goodbye to Castiel,
  saying goodbye to the crew.
• 3:08 | And then also literally saying
  goodbye to our families.
• 3:13 | It was super, super intense.
• 3:17 | So that night really
  stands out to me.
• 3:22 | Goodbye, Dean.
• 3:24 | (gentle music)
